Pool Design & Installation
A custom swimming pool or spa can turn an ordinary property into a spectacular destination. At Outdoor Spaces, our team will provide professional pool design and installation services that will compliment your home and enrich your lifestyle.
As opposed to simply hiring a pool builder, bringing Outdoor Spaces into the fold for your swimming pool installations in Northern Virginia will ensure that the pool design integrates with your outdoor living areas and landscape. Our expert designers have extensive experience incorporating various styles of pools and dozens of different types of water features into their designs.
Outdoor Spaces is happy to begin your pool design process and then work alongside one of our established pool-building partners, or we can work alongside your pre-selected pool building company if you’ve already begun having those conversations.
Pool Design
Pools come in many shapes and sizes, and the specifics of your backyard – including the grading – should be taken into consideration when designing a pool to ensure it fits within your space. At Outdoor Spaces, we’ll put our designers to the task of integrating your pool, whether it’s a part of a larger outdoor project or just the newest piece of your personal oasis.
Your pool can be built close to your home or as more of a destination space, requiring walking across a lawn or pathway to get to. Other common outdoor features built alongside a residential pool include, but are not limited to:
- Pool deck/patio
- Outdoor kitchen
- Outdoor lighting
- Fire features
- Bars
- Pavilions
Gunite vs. Fiberglass Pools
The vast majority of pools are made out of a gunite – or concrete – structure. This material offers a very flexible design that can be molded into all shapes and sizes and can include all sorts of in-pool features (such as stairs, posts, stools, etc.)
Fiberglass pools are another recent trend in residential pool construction. Made from a reinforced fiberglass shell and constructed in one piece, fiberglass pools are more cost-friendly as they require very little maintenance and have a long lifespan.
The main drawback to fiberglass pools is that they’re fairly inflexible design-wise, making them a fit for your home only if you carve out a space that can accommodate their specific prefabricated shape.
Chlorine vs. Saltwater Pools
While many folks still swear by the more traditional chlorine pool, saltwater pools are actually the most common type of pool being installed residentially right now.
Saltwater pools are less salty than ocean water, but have a higher level of saline than traditional chlorine pools. They self-clean by using salt chlorinators, though they do still require maintenance like regular pools do.
Many people prefer saltwater pools because they’re gentler on the skin, friendlier to the environment, and have lower maintenance costs.
Chlorine pools generally have lower up-front costs, are less complicated to operate and maintain, and are easier to find materials for in stores. Plus, chlorine is not nearly as corrosive to ladders, decks, and pool toys as saltwater pools can be. These factors all make chlorine pools a solid choice, too.
Hot Tubs & Spas
At Outdoor Spaces, we can incorporate hot tubs and spas into the design of your outdoor living area. Hot tubs are most commonly situated adjacent to a swimming pool or as a standalone unit inside of a gazebo or pavilion.
Water Features
Unlike pools and hot tubs, water features are purely ornamental in nature.
Outdoor Spaces can enhance your outdoor setting by incorporating a number of different water features, including:
- Fountains
- Waterfalls
- Streams
- Ponds
- Water gardens
