Lillian Robison is a Landscape Designer with a thoughtful, space-first approach to creating outdoor environments that are both highly functional and richly detailed. She holds a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture with a minor in Horticulture from Virginia Tech and has been designing residential landscapes in the Northern Virginia area since 2014.

Lillian’s passion for landscape design was shaped early, through childhood gardening with her mother and a lifelong interest in DIY home projects. That foundation, paired with her formal education, informs her ability to thoughtfully plan outdoor spaces that reflect how clients truly want to live outside. While her own aesthetic leans toward a blend of contemporary structure and naturalistic planting, Lillian sees her role first and foremost as discovering and embracing each client’s unique style.

Functionality always comes first in Lillian’s designs. She begins every project by diving deep into how a space will be used, whether that’s hosting outdoor meals, gathering around a fire pit, enjoying quiet conversation, or creating flexible areas for multiple activities. From there, she layers in materials, geometry, planting design, and details that elevate the experience without sacrificing ease of use. Her work often features clean-lined hardscapes paired with flowing, textured plantings that feel intentional yet organic.

Lillian particularly enjoys projects with grade changes, viewing sloped yards as opportunities rather than obstacles. By working with natural elevation shifts, she creates distinct outdoor “rooms” using steps, walls, and transitions that add character while maximizing usable space. Her close involvement with the installation process continually sharpens her design approach and ensures that ideas on paper translate seamlessly into the built environment.

What Lillian enjoys most is the full arc of the design-build process. From initial client meetings and vision conversations to watching a space transform over the course of a few months, she finds it deeply rewarding to see how thoughtful design can change the way homeowners interact with their outdoor spaces. She also values the collaborative, supportive culture at Outdoor Spaces and the strong relationships within the team.

Outside of work, Lillian lives with her family and cats and enjoys singing in choir, tackling home improvement projects, and experimenting in the kitchen. A passionate cook and baker, she’s known to seek out the most complex, time-consuming recipes purely for the joy of the challenge and the reward at the table.
